The name, “Front Street” was selected after an enthusiastic response to the concept of tying the development to the nostalgia of the original location, a bustling riverfront thoroughfare from the late 1800’s through the 1950’s. Front Street not only refers to the new pedestrian-oriented street that will anchor the development, but also to the district as a whole, encompassing Arch Street and the Hartford Times Building, the historic portions of which are being preserved to showcase its grand balcony facing Prospect Street.
- The Front Street development is strongly aligned with the revitalization approach of the 1998 Economic and Urban Design Action Strategy authored by urban planner Ken Greenberg, who was engaged by CCEDA for consultation on the Front Street plan.
- Phase I of Front Street was completed in November of 2010 and it's first tenant will begin space fit-out in June, 2011. Spotlight Theatre, based in Greensboro, Georgia, is not your typical movie venue. It will occupy the southeast corner of the development at Columbus Boulevard and Front Streets.
- The luxury movie theatre concept features the latest DOLBY and DTS digital audio and digital projection, high-back seats that rock with wide spacing between rows for extra legroom and stadium seating for unobstructed views of the wall-to-wall screens. Amenities such as online advanced ticketing, will-call, reserved seating, an expanded concession menu and full dining options enhance this unique moving-going experience. Spotlight plans to open in the fall of 2011, just in time for the holiday movie season.
- As a company based in Georgia, the addition of Spotlight Threatres, Inc. to the Adriaen's Landing District supports the idea that businesses outside of Hartford and the state are interested in doing business in Connecticut.
- Phase II, which will includes apartments, is in the planning stages.
